Under 14s Reach Last 16 of SFAI Cup
Kells Blackwater 1-5 Moone Celtic A, 4th Feb 2011

This result is an incredible outcome for this Moone Celtic side. Beating Kells Blackwater in this fashion to reach the last sixteen in Ireland is a great credit to the squad.

This game took place on a heavy rain sodden pitch with a strong wind. Moone played against the wind in the first half. Despite this strong breeze it was clear that Moone believed their passing style would determine the outcome.

It was slightly against the run of play when Moone failed to clear a ball and Kells capitalised by scoring in off the post on 10 mins giving Mark Jackson in goal no chance. Josh Miller & Luke Kerins lead by example in midfield by both winning tackles and setting up attacks. Mark Glynn was inches away from equalising when he attacked a header from an in-swinging corner. Moone never looked back when Eric Doran set up Kieran Farrell to neatly chip the Kells keeper on 25mins. Mark Lawler & Kieran Farrell both went close on a few occasions but the half ended in stalemate.

With the wind & a slight gradient in Moone's favour their passing style proved too much for Kells in the second half. A clever, zippy run by Evan Stephenson teed Mark Lawler up to put Moone in the lead on 40 mins. This was closely followed by a superb Josh Miller diving header goal from an Oran Bergin corner on 47 mins.

Josh Miller then combined with Evan Stephenson on the left before cutting in from the left to angle a right foot shot into the corner of the net. This effectively ended the game as a contest. Dylan Kennedy expertly played Kieran Farrell through on goal in the final minute. Farrell looked in total control as he drew the Kells keeper out giving him no chance as chipped high into the empty net from 25 yards.

Moone now await the winners of Gorey Rangers, Wexford or Tramore Athletic, Cork in the next round. With performances of the standard on show here from the likes of David Lambe, Mark McGinley, Mark Liederiths, Paul Huntington, Daniel Kelly & Conor O'Sullivan, Moone will be relishing the next challenge.
