CLANE UTD. 2-1 MOONE CELTIC
NA meats Lumsden League Cup Round 4 - 21st August 2011

Senior Division side Clane had to battle all the way before securing their place in the quarter finals of the NA Meats Lumsden Cup against a game Moone Celtic side. Moone showed they meant business early on and had a goal ruled out for offside after a fine move. United opened the scoring midway through the first half, with a fine strike from inside the box by John Sullivan.

Moone battled back and had the home defence under pressure for the remainder of the half and deservedly equalised when Tom Hickey beat two defenders and rounded keeper Alan Brennan to level the scores shortly before half time. There was still time for Clane to hit the bar, following a corner, late on in an exciting first half

The Senior side’s superior fitness told in the latter stages when they got on top, hitting the woodwork again before Killian Patchell netted the winner with ten minutes remaining.

Clane were again under pressure in the final minutes. Johnny Browne was denied by the bar and the impressive Brennan in the Clane goal came to his side’s rescue with two top drawer saves from Lazenby and Mikey Wall in the final minutes.

Clane had stars in Cillian Patchell and Jason Acton while Anthony Hegarty, Jahn Lazenby, Johnny Browne and Mickey Wall impressed for an unlucky Moone side.
