| MOONE CELTIC 2-2 REDWOOD AFC |
| 8th October 2011 |
Moone should have taken all three points if it wasn't for some outstanding defending by a Redwood side that fully deserved a share of the spoils. A contender for goal of the season came from a free kick when a Redwood player was fouled on the halfway line. Isiais Lima confidently eyed up the goal and with a short run up, drilled a shot that caught the keeper Ken Darcy by surprise, putting Redwood one up. The Redwood defence appeared solid in the first 30 minutes. Clarges, O'Neill and centre backs McBennett and Edwards, were in control and soaked up the Moone pressure. However, against the run of play, Moone broke forward and got back into the game in the 40th minute when Mark Murphy volleyed home a John Lazenby cross. Murphy was unlucky not to get another one before the half time whistle when his header looked destined to hit the net before the Redwood keeper produced a fantastic full-stretch fingertip save. Just before half time, Ken Thornton received a second yellow card for dissent and Redwood were reduced to ten men. During the half time break, manager, John O'Connor, refused to let the dismissal get in the way of a result. Both O'Connor and captain, Bennett, urged players to uphold the high tempo from the first half and carry it in the second half. They were rewarded shortly afterwards with a second goal direct from a free kick. For the last 20 minutes Moone pushed men forward and got their reward when John Whelan hit a superb free kick from the sideline, just inside the Moone half which flew into the top corner of the net to finish the scoring in a very entertaining game. Best for Moone were Aaron McMahon, John Lazenby, Vincent McCormack and John Whelan. In top form for the visitors were Isiais Lima and Leon Clarges.
